Abstract

Oro-antral communication (OAC) most commonly occurs as a complication of maxillary molar and premolar extraction. The primary reason is the anatomic proximity of the root apices to sinus floor or projection of the roots within the maxillary
sinus. Varies flaps have been reported in the literatures for closure of OAC. The present reports have shown that the
buccal fat pad (BFP) can be used safely in the closure of OAC following tooth extractions. The pedicled BFP has gained popularity because of it¡¯s rich blood supply, quick epithelialization, and high success rate. In our study, BFP graft in the closure of following tooth extraction was successful in the 3 patients. So we are to introduce the useful applications of the BFP in the closure of the OAC following tooth extraction with literature review.
